Managing handheld devices
Industrial Android-based handheld devices (barcode scanners, data collection terminals) are indispensable helpers for warehouse and store workers. Managing these devices by an MDM could be challenging:
- Remote configuration requires manufacturer-specific API usage.
- Some models do not have an MDM provisioning method.
- Warehouse devices are often hosted in a private closed network.

Headwind MDM mobile agent has been thoroughly tested and is proven to be compatible with the leading handheld manufacturers: Zebra, Urovo, Honeywell, Mertech, and Mindeo.
Management functions
The following MDM functions are most commonly used by handheld terminal administrators:
- Group-based unified device setup.
- Kiosk mode (locking the device so only business apps can be launched).
- Profile deployment and remote configuration.
- Corporate software maintenance.
Additionally, Headwind MDM is suitable for managing devices in closed networks – it doesn’t communicate with external cloud services and doesn’t require Internet connection to work.
OEM Opportunity
We are closely working with smaller handheld OEMs, enabling them to add Headwind MDM to the Android firmware and provide their customers with the managed solutions “out of the box”.
The following opportunities are available for Android-based handheld computer manufacturers.
- Adaptation to the custom device including assistance with embedding Headwind MDM in the Android firmware.
- Rebranded MDM panel.
- Multi-tenant solution for managing devices of multiple independent customers.
- Reselling Premium licenses for larger business clients.
